During the 2022-2023 school year, I redesigned and relaunched our tech education program. I created the Tech Prep program with some help from a consultant company. As a district, we wanted to help our students prepare for college or their careers. The shifting job market means we need to shift. Tech usage and the ability to teach yourself new trends must be part of the educational environment. The Tech Prep program starts with a focus on early elementary tech skills. Those students spend time learning skills in an interactive environment. Stations are introduced and added throughout the year so students can learn in safe environments. Students need to feel safe to take risks early. This feeling of safety helps them with mistakes they will make when learning coding and other creative assignments. Students then start moving towards more in depth skills. Students learn coding, graphic design, Google Workspace skills, content creation, and databases. The final two courses in the Tech Prep program grant high school CTE credit for 7th and 8th grade students. By the end of the program, students will get the skills they need to be successful in a CTE course, a career, or college. These students will be universal users, so they know how to use any tool because they can see how these tools work. We don't know what tools will be popular then, but they will have the skills to learn about the new product.
